What medicine I should bring for altitude?

If you are traveling to Bhutan and plan to visit high altitude areas, it is advisable to consult with your doctor before the trip to discuss any medical concerns and obtain appropriate advice. Your doctor may recommend certain medications or precautions based on your medical history, age, and overall health. Some common medications that are used to prevent and treat altitude sickness include acetazolamide (Diamox), which helps to increase respiration and reduce the buildup of fluid in the lungs and brain, and dexamethasone, which helps to reduce inflammation and swelling. In addition to medications, it is also important to take precautions to prevent altitude sickness, such as drinking plenty of water, avoiding alcohol and smoking, taking it easy and gradually acclimatizing to the altitude, and avoiding strenuous activities for the first few days. It’s always a good idea to carry a basic medical kit that includes items such as pain relievers, diarrhea medication, antihistamines, and any prescription medications you may need. However, if you experience severe symptoms of altitude sickness, such as difficulty breathing, chest pain, confusion, or severe headache, seek medical attention immediately.
