Island Peak (6,189m.) climbing is one of the most popular and unquestionably most enlivening trekking in the world. Island peak trek provides an opportunity to visit the center region of the Khumbu. The magnificent vista visible throughout the trek will enthrall you and which will never be elapsed. Most importantly, you will get an occasion to view the world’s highest peak- Mount Everest.
Renamed as Imja Tse in 1983, Island Peak trekking is one of the major trekking peaks in Everest area with an amazing and ice-covered West Face that rise up from the Lhotse Glacier. This peak entails one steep and uncovered 100 m snow climb. In addition, mostly it has non technical snow climb with eye-catching landscape and offers superb views of the summits – Lhotse (8501m.), Nuptse (7879m.), and Lhotse Middle Peak (8410m.).
Furthermore, you can walk up to Kalapathhar (5545m.) and Everest Base Camp, the famous trekking spots. From there, you can enjoy close up views of Mount Everest and an exciting panorama of sunrise on the snow capped peaks on top of the Khumbu Glacier early in the morning. Then, we move down to Chhukung and arrange for the Island Peak climb. The peak itself is in fact an expansion of the South crest of Lhotse Shar and is divided from it by a tiny col.

Trip Itinerary

Day 01Arrival Kathmandu Airport & Transfer to Hotel
After you arrive in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by our representative at the airport and then s/he will transfer you to hotel. Check in to the Hotel. Rest of the day is all yours and overnight at hotel.

Day 02Prepare permit & trekking gears
Today our experienced and skilled guide will brief you about the trek. And you will be preparing for permit and get ready with all the necessary equipments for trekking. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 03Flight to Lukla 2800m. & trek to Phakding 2610m
Taking a superb scenic flight which provides a chance to fly to the giant Himalayan that joins Nepal and China, you move from Kathmandu to Lukla (2827m.) early in the morning. Upon your arrival after 40 minutes, your porter will carry your baggage during your trek. The trek starts with a simple walk down to the Dudh Koshi River where you connect the main path to Namche Bazaar. After going across the small area Ghat (2550m.), you arrive at Phakding.

Day 04Phakding to Namche Bazaar
Today, you begin from Phakding and go across the river to trek through the region of rhododendron and blue pine forest which is really splendid throughout the spring, when the flowers blossom. You go across the Dudh Koshi at Benkar and enjoy the scenes of snow-capped mountains Kusum Kanguru (6369m.) and Thamserku (6623m.). The way now gets fairly complex and includes a vertical ascends to Namche Bazaar. The walk follows upstream on flat ground, on the bank, to the unification point of the Bhote Kosi and Dudh Koshi rivers. After crossing a suspension bridge above the river we move up to Namche Bazaar. We get the most unbelievable vivid opportunities of viewing huge peaks -Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Taweche is observable. Overnight at Namche Bazaar.

Day 05Rest for acclimatization in Namche Bazaar
You will visit around Namche Bazaar today in order to get appropriate acclimatization at the height. Namche is a well off village located in a large sheltered hollow. From the national park headquarters on top of the village, one can take the chance to look both scenery of sunrise and sunset. The amazing panorama also contains superb vista of the Khumbu peaks and large views of Everest. After having your breakfast, you can optionally walk towards Thami (3810m.) over the spectacular Bhote Khola River Valley or opt for going to the national park headquarters to watch the unusual displays of Sherpa life and culture.

Day 06Trek from Namche to Tengboche 3800m
You walk down through the Khumjung community today and travel to the most significant path to Everest at Shanasa. You keep on walking to Trashinga and after that go down to traverse the Dudh Kosi at Phunkitenga (3250m. In the daytime, it is a broad and vertical climb all the way through fir, pine, black juniper, rhododendron forest and reaches Tengboche Monastery. In addition, you can see huge peaks Ama Dablam, Kantega and obviously Mount Everest. You stay at Tengboche tonight.

Day 07Trek Tengboche to Pheriche 4200m
You go around the monastery in the morning before moving down through the forest of birch, juniper, fir and rhododendron to the nunnery at Debuche. For now, you have steady climbs only. After crossing the Imja Khola, the trail heads to the Pangboche village where you can have lunch seeing the stunning peak Ama Dablam. In the afternoon your way ascends through open alpine hillsides before crossing the Imja Khola again and reaches Pheriche.

Day 08Trek from Pheriche to Lobuche 4900m
Today, you leave Pheriche and the trail ascends to the drainage of the Khumbu. After around an hour it begins to mount up the moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. Half of the way up to the moraine is Dughla. Moving further from Dughla the trail keeps on climbing steeply to the peak of the moraine. The trail now moves on plane level on the west side of the moraine before arriving at Lobuche.

Day 09From Lobuche trek to Kalapathar 5545m. And Back to Lobuche 4900m
From Lobuche, today you will walk to Gorakshep and after that you ascend to Everest base camp and Kalapathar. There are no hotels and lodges at Everest base camp and Kalapathar. After reaching Kala Patthar, you will have a straight climb and lets you to see splendid views of Everest. You can see the peaks like Lingtren (6,697m.), Pumori (7,145m.) Khumbutse (6,623m.) which seprates you from Tibet. You then head back to Lobuche to stay tonight.

Day 10Trek Lobuche to Dingboche 4300m.

Day 11From Dingboche trek to Chukung 4730m.
You today walk to Chukhung Valley which is situated beneath the far-fetched rock wall that connects Nuptse with Lhotse. From here, you will see magnificent views of Amadablam (6856 m.), the most pictorial peak in Nepal. Tonight at Chhukung.

Day 12From Chukung trek to Island Peak Base camp 5000m
Today you will walk all along the Imja Khola to reach Pareshaya Gyab, a pleasant spot by a tiny lake with very stunning sights of the Nuptse-Lhotse wall and Lhotse Glacier. Once camp has been set in Island Peak Base Camp 5000m, you will be liberated to get your climbing stuff in order and get prepared for your ascent of the peak tomorrow.

Day 13From Island Base Camp climb to High Camp 5500m.

Day 14From High Camp climb up the Summit 6160m. and back to Base Camp
You will start climbing early in morning to reach the peak and the way turns complicated once you arrive at the base of the icefall below the peak. Great carefulness must be taken while going up the wall to expose on the edge to the summit 6160m. After reaching the summit, you will return down to the Base Camp.

Today, you trek downward all along the gorge of the Dudh Koshi to the tiny village of Phakding. Overnight in Phakding.

You have your lunch in Phakding and climb up to Lukla. Overnight in Lukla.

Day 19Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu, Overnight at Hotel
Early in the morning, you take a scenic flight from Lukla for traveling back to Kathmandu. We transfer you back to your hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 20Rest day in Kathmandu, Overnight at Hotel
Today is free day on your own in Kathmandu, there will be chances of flight cancel or delay by the weather so you need keep one extra day as reserve. Overnight in Kathmandu.
